This is a large, piece of agatized Petrified Wood, polished on both sides. The tree patterns are nicely detailed, including a star pattern in the center, and the tree bark beautifully preserved. I believe it to be a full round, and the bark is visible all the way around. Even that little indentation clearly has bark! Looking very closely at the detail, there are a couple small areas where the bark is a little more smooth than the rest of it, but I don't think it was chipped there, though not sure why so smooth compared to the rest. Also, there is one small area that looks like a break in the bark on one edge, about 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick, but the bark looks to me to still be there on the bottom of that as well (see last photo of slide show). We do not know what species it is, or where it was collected. It is 10 1/2" x 8 1/2" and about 1/2" thick. It weighs 3 lbs, 14 ounces, or 1.78 kgs. The photos do not do it justice - the color much looks richer in person. A gorgeous specimen for display or to add to a collection! This piece may also still be available through our eBay store.)

[Additional image] [Another shot] [Taken with a flash] [Close-up of the graining]We are fairly certain these bookends are Petrified Wood, or Fossil wood. But a set with a mystery ... we can see the wood graining on the polished side and on the bottom. However, the top edges and backs are a solid black. The only thing we can think of is that the person that polished them possibly painted the edges and back black. Whatever the reason, they're just beautiful! They are sized for small to medium books, standing 5" tall x 4 3/8" and 1 5/8". They weigh 2280 grams, or 5 lbs. The edges have no felt on them, but one inside edge has a little residue that looks like it might have had felt or something at one time. The pictures in the slide show just don't do them justice - they really are a gorgeous pair, whether as bookends, or just display.

[Comparison to 12" ruler] [Close-up] [Closer] [Extreme close-up of center] [Colorful splashes of color] [This is the back side, rough and unpolished] [Bark detailing] [Showing the edge where the bark is chipped away, from back side] [Looking down where the bark is chipped away, from front side] [Notice it is thinner in some areas than others]This is a large, gorgeous piece of Petrified Wood. It is beautifully polished on the sliced face, while rough and uneven on the back. The edge and the patterns on the face are nicely detailed, showing the tree rings and bark. It is nearly a full round, missing only a 2 1/2" section along one edge where the bark had been chipped away (when collecting??). It is colorful, with soft yellows and small dabs of a bright orange mixed in with the brown and light shades of blue-greens. Unfortunately, we do not know what species it is, or where it was collected. It is 10" x 8 1/2" on the face, and the edge tapers in thickness, from about 1/4" in a small area up to a little more than 1 1/4." It weighs 5 lbs 1 ounce, or 2.31 kgs. While not a perfect round, we believe it is a beautiful specimen to add to any collection!

This is a beautiful pair of Petrified Wood bookends, or matching sides for a wonderful display specimen. They aren't very tall - 5 1/2" at their tallest x 4 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" thick, and weight is about 3 lbs each, 6.2 lbs total (2.77 kgs). So they aren't light. If using them as bookends, they would probably hold medium books fine. There is no felt or padding on the bottom, just the sliced unpolished rock. They are rough and unpolished on the inside edge, bottom, and the back. But even unpolished, they are amazing to look at! The widest sliced face of both sides has a really nice polish on it. The areas with the rough, uncut surface is very textured rough rock, but yet has a smooth, kind of waxie feel to it. The right side has two small indented areas along the bottom edge (visible in the last two photos), essentially chips, but they look like the rock was that way before being polished, not like it was chipped as a finished piece. These are just gorgeous whether as display, or for a more purposeful use as bookends! (This piece is also offered through our eBay store.)

This is a slice of Petrified Wood, or Fossil Wood, beautifully polished on one side. We don't know where this beauty came from, but it is just gorgeous! It is a complete round, with the bark and wood graining nicely visible. There are a couple of slight indentations on the surface just below the polish level and still rough - the whitish area you see in the photos at one of the pointed ends, and the other I only detected when running my hand over the surface. It's approximately 8" x 6" and 14 mm, or a little over 1/2" thick. It weighs 1 pound, 10 ounces, or 740 grams. A beautiful specimen!

[Looking straight down on it] [A close-up] [Photographed closer] [A close-up of the center area] [The other side]This is an awesome, unpolished slice, an end piece, of Petrified Wood, or Fossil Wood. It looks to us like Arizona Wood, but it is possible it is from China (long story!). It is not a complete round, but still a gorgeous half. It's roughly 7 1/2" x 5" and 4-12 mm thick, weighing 425 grams, or 15.1 ounces. It was photographed wet, though amazing colors even natural. A beautiful specimen!

[Another stot, standing up] [Closer shot] [Close-up of center area] [Size comparison]This is a slice of Petrified Wood, or Fossil Wood, nicely polished on one side. It is a complete round, though the flat-polished face has one small fragment missing in one area, as visible in the photos. We are not ourselves expert on Wood, but we were told by someone that is, that this piece 'looks like Upper Triasic, Chin Lee, possibly a member of the Painted Desert.' He also said that it 'passes for Arau Cario Xylon Arizonicum,' but it's not. He continued, that it may be from Paria River Area, southern Utah. It's roughly 7 1/2" x 4 3/4" and mostly 5/8" thick, with one end about 7/8" thick. It weighs 1 pound, 9 ounces. A beautiful specimen!

[Slightly further away] [Other side] [Closer shot] [Close-up] [Another close-up] [Photo of the detailed edge]This is a complete 'round' unpolished slice of Petrified Wood. It appears to have had a nice sanding, with no apparent scratches, so it is very smooth but not actually polished. It is a gorgeous specimen! The bark from the tree is easily seen all along the 1" edge, and rings clearly visible on both sides. It measures 6 1/4" x 5 1/4" and is just over 1" deep. It weighs 2.5 pounds. A wonderful specimen for any collector, whether unpolished as-is, or polished.
